The international French language channel TV5Monde has signed a global distribution agreement for its connected TV service with the television set manufacturers Philips and Toshiba.
With a simple broadband Internet connection, households anywhere in the world owning a connected Philips TV set (and later a Toshiba set) will then have free access to the catch-up TV programmes of various channels of the service and to the two WebTV channels dedicated to Africa and Youth as well as to the electronic programme guide of TV5Monde.
This service, developed by the French company Dotscreen, is among the most innovative and comprehensive currently offered by national and international connected TV television channels. Indeed, viewers can compile and watch their own viewing lists by choosing various programmes within the different sections of the service. According to their geographical location, viewers will also be able to view the programme guide corresponding to the signal of TV5Monde in the area where they live and to the respective time zone.
Jean-Alain Jachiet adds: “BCE positions itself as a provider of a high-availability server infrastructure and Internet bandwidth. We have a proven know-how in this field, which explains our success with television broadcasters offering this type of service.”
