Viasat received CSI Award for their new playout centre in the Baltic States
Viasat received the CSI Award 2011 for the “Best outside broadcast or playout technology or service” for their Baltic Central Playout (BCP). Viasat made a good impression with its facility, a state-of-the-art, fully automated and tapeless playout centre located in Riga. The solution was built by Broadcasting Center Europe (BCE) in brand new premises and consists of the latest broadcast technology to cater for HD programming.

Speaking about the award, Magnus Lindholm, Head of Platform development said: “I am proud being in charge of the Baltic Central Playout (BCP) project since this is the most advanced playout we currently have on the MTG platform. The internal cooperation between technical teams has been very efficient and highly impressing, this clearly shows that we all stand together.
During the time of the project I appointed Roberts Melbardis as Head of Operations. Roberts and his team have clearly shown that hard work is paying off and that the impossible is possible. Additional channels and load has been added to BCP even then he continues to deliver same high quality and dedicated work through his team.
In order to take the playout to next level, we are now introducing a new advanced playout technology which will make BCP even more efficient and cost effective. By doing this MTG can launch more channels and be able to stretch for more awards.”
The CSI Awards are among the most comprehensive and competitive technology awards anywhere in the world, designed to reward technical and product marketing excellence in the cable, satellite, terrestrial broadcasting and IPTV sectors. They are organised by CSI magazine and likely to be held at IBC, arguably the world’s most important exhibition in this sector.
The awards are judged independently of CSI by a panel of experts that includes practicing and former heads of engineering and operations from some of the world’s most important network operators, well-respected consultants and senior industry analysts. In 2010, there were 17 people on the awards panel – a figure that allowed judges to specialise in their areas of greatest knowledge/experience, and which also provides assurance that the final result will take into account diverse opinions and backgrounds.
“We are very proud that Viasat received the CSI award 2011 for their playout centre. The project was already a success and this award comforts BCE in its expertise and professional services. We strongly congratulate Viasat and wish them the best success with their state-of-the-art playout centre.” Gusty Feinen | Manager Special Projects | BCE.
